“A Quiet Place”
I didn’t see this but am so stoked to see it. I made a date with my husband for Saturday night, which thrills him because I told him on our first date we’d never go to the movies because I see so many for work!!!
John Krasinski, whose career launched on the apparently, soon to be re-booted “The Office”, co-wrote , directed and co-stars with real-life wife Emily Blunt in this PG-13 rated thriller/horror about a family who has to live in total silence. That’s to ward off creatures who hear you and then hunt you. It centers on a family of 4 , soon to be 5- since mom is about to have to go through childbirth in silence. Now THAT’S a nightmare!!!! The movie gets a rare 99% from Rotten Tomatoes. It’s described as tense, taut & skillfully storied.
“Blockers”
Again, I didn’t’ catch this one. Seth Rogen produced and Leslie Mann stars so you KNOW it’s funny and racy. Perfectly titled as it’s the story of 3 sets of parents who discover their daughters have a pact to lose their virginity on prom night. Thus, the parents are out to be “blockers,” to stop it from happening. Q friend John Cena also stars as the father of one of the girls. It’s the perfect length for a comedy: a little more than an hour-and-a-half. Rotten Tomatoes gives it 87%.
“Where Is Kyra”
Not only did I see this one, screenwriter Darci Picoult joins me on “Sonstein Sunday” @ 7:15am and also on my podcast “Sonstein Sessions” on the IHeartradio app. A totally de-glammed 3-time Oscar nominee Michelle Pfeiffer stars as an older middle-aged jobless divorcee who spirals into invisibility in NYC. Kiefer Sutherland co-stars as her alcoholic upstairs lover. This movie is beyond bleak. It’s completely depressing. It’s a there-but-for-the-grace-of god moment. Pfeiffer stuns in this role. It haunts you. Rotten Tomatoes gives it a 75%.
