Weekend Outlook: Riding The Rails And Seeing The Festivals

Posted July 31st, 2014 @ 7:32am

Well I’m sure I know what Shelli will be doing this weekend since she’ll be out of town. Seeing her kids, shopping at the Beverly Hills Good Will Store, testing out the springs on the hotel be… Wait, that’s too much information.

I think I need to spend the weekend on the rails. The New York Transit Museum is taking out their old trains from storage and running them down to the Rockaways on Sunday. Only $2.50 for a nostalgia ride sounds like fun.

Or maybe I’ll hop Metro North to Poughkeepsie tonight for the Burgers and Beer fest at Shadows on the Hudson Marina.

Out on Long Island there are some fun events happening too.

The Long Beach Film Fest kicked off yesterday and runs through Monday. Their website says you can watch some of the greatest, hand-picked independent movie releases from around the world and take part in exclusive film and music events, Q & A panels with award winning filmmakers and directors and more! Joan Jett is scheduled to make an appearance too.

Sayville’s Summer Fest is running all weekend too.

Tomorrow night Soundgarden and Nine Inch Nails are at Jones Beach.

And down the shore in Keansburg there’s a free Irish Festival on the boardwalk. In Highlands, they’re having their annual Clambake. It’s the 20th anniversary and it kicks off tonight.

You always hear about the Jersey Tomato and Jersey Corn from Shelli, well apparently there’s a Jersey Peach too. There are several peach festivals happening, but the closest one is in Chester at Alstede Farms Peach Harvest Festival. If you feel like traveling though, outside Philly, 11th Annual Fine Arts and Peach Festival is taking place at Riverview Estates in Riverton.
