For Long Islanders, this might be the last weekend you ever see New York City up close. I expect that after the strike, cars will pile up on the LIE, the Northern and Southern States, frozen in traffic until they run out of gas and are abandoned by the owners, trapping everyone on the island. It’s going to look like the opening scene from The Stand. Cue Don’t Fear The Reaper.

That's pretty much how it looks every day at the tunnel

Ok, that’s Joe’s version of events. Me personally, I think they’ll resolve it at the midnight hour.

So live it up in the city this weekend before it’s too late!!

There’s a free screening of Sharknado at Brooklyn Bridge Park tonight at 6pm

Tomorrow night, join Gerry Martire and Mr. Doom and Gloom producer Joe for FDNY night at the Cyclones game. They’ll be broadcasting live from 4-7pm at Peggy O’neil’s. Then there’s going to be a raffle for the starting lineup’s jerseys after the game.

In Staten Island the Alice Austen House is hosting a pot luck dinner and art show on Saturday at 7pm.

In New Jersey, the Morris County Fair is happening in Chester and starting Monday, Freehold is hosting the Monmouth County Fair.

If you happen to get “left behind” in the city after the strike begins, AND you’re a fan of Orange Is The New Black, Piper Kerman will be at the Bryant Park Reading Room at 12:30pm on Monday talking about her book which inspired the series and about the show.

And if you fail to heed Joe’s warning and choose to remain on the island, Long Beach is having a Street Fair and Carnival. In Deer Park at the Tanger’s Outlets, they’re having a food truck and music festival on Saturday.
