Well I’m out of the tri-state area this weekend, so here’s a list of events that I’ll be missing! I’m going to Arizona. Going to try to find Summer and ask why it didn’t visit us this year…
This is the last of the Summer Streets for the season. Seven miles of Manhattan streets closed to cars from the Brooklyn Bridge to Central Park and open to bike riders, roller blades, walkers and joggers. Lots going on from free bike repairs and free helmets, a zip line, in the street yoga and more. And there’s a really cool art and sound exhibit taking place in the Park Avenue tunnel near Grand Central.
On Long Island there are a few festivals this Saturday including the Tomato Tasting fest and Watermelon Fest near Riverhead. On Fire Island there’s a Craft Beer Festival. It’s a little pricy, but you get to drink 25 different local and nation wide craft beers. And there’s a Bluegrass Music Festival in Copiague.
Also check out the free screening of A Night At The Museum on Lido Beach Friday night. Robin Williams plays Teddy Roosevelt.
In Jersey City, La Festa Italiana started last night and goes through Sunday. Right on 6th Street, outside the Holy Rosary Church. Live music every night, plus zeppolis and other Italian fair food.
Now Oktoberfest is already misnamed, since the Germans celebrate it in September. But New Jersey is taking it a month earlier. The 140th Annual Oktoberfest in August returns to Schuetzen Park in North Bergen. Admission is only $10 and starts at noon on Saturday and Sunday.
Ziggy Zacky Ziggy Zacky Hoi Hoi Hoi! Prost!
But if beer and brats aren’t your thing, Vintage North Jersey is sponsoring their first Wine and Food festival at Four Sisters Winery off route 80 in Belvidere. Sample New Jersey wines from Sussex to Mercer County. Wineries will be paired up with local specialty food selections.
I’ll see you on Monday the 25th. Hopefully refreshed, preferably not tanned. I’ll be wearing my customary jeans in the sun look.
