"Legend" is the title of one of the highest selling albums of all time, courtesy of one Bob Marley. It also aptly describes the Gent I'm pictured with here. If not for him, there would be no Bob Marley as he discovered and signed him to his then record label Island records. His name is Chris Blackwell, and he also happens to be my cousin. I guess the music gene runs through the family...

Come to think of it, without Chris we wouldn't be familiar with a little band out of Ireland known as U2. Nor Steve Winwood and Traffic, Melissa Etheridge, and a host of others. It's a remarkable list if you care to look it up.

Spending time with my cousin is a truly fascinating experience, and God bless him he's extremely patient with me and my zillion rock history questions when we get together.

His primary passion now is boutique hotels (Goldeneye in Jamaica, etc) and a play about Bob Marley that is in early stages but will eventually be hitting Broadway.

This picture was taken after spending a good chunk of an afternoon at his NYC apt sipping his private label Jamaican rum "Blackwell's". I'm not much of a liquor drinker, but I know good stuff when I taste it. And this one goes down, ummm, reallllly easily. Haha.

I hope to have Chris up to the show sometime and will let you know if/when that happens.
