Interview: Luke Elliot Talks Europe, Prince and Performs "Let It Rain"

Singer/songwriter Luke Elliot was born and raised in New Jersey, but he got his first break in Norway.

It all started after a concert in New York City, Elliot tells Q104.3's "Out of the Box" with Jonathan Clarke. Elliot's producer John Agnello brought him backstage, where Elliot struck up a conversation with Norwegian journalist Eirik Mosveen

"I was in New York City, I wanted to always have some kind of CD on me," Elliot says. "So I gave it to him. I was like, 'I'm never going to hear from this little person again...' And so he takes the album and he listens to it and he calls me and we just became instant friends."

Mosveen wrote a full-page feature story on Elliot for his publication in Norway and Elliot followed up with a tour there. He was soon approached by an engineer who wanted to make Elliot's album.

"We couldn't believe it, so we just cut this record," he says.

The result of those sessions is Dressed for the Occassion, a kind of sonic film noir, driven by the 31-year-old Elliot's old-soul perspective and storytelling lyrics. The album is pensive and poetic with a classic ambiance that is only enhanced by its analog production.

Dressed for the Occassion has already helped Elliot make a name for himself in Europe. Now that he has North American distribution, Elliot says he's excited to take his songs to American audiences.
