A new story going around says that Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson are considering working together as Lee-Lifeson, following the decision of Rush drummer Neil Peart to stop touring tour years ago.
Instead of rehashing the same story, we reached out to the band's spokeswoman, Meg Symsyk:
"With all love to Eddie Trunk, who is a friend of the Rush camp, his comments were his own opinion, purely speculative and not based on any fact, that the Internet happily ran without verifying," she says. "What I can tell you is that when and if Alex and Geddy decide to work together, that announcement will come from them, not a third party."
When we last spoke with Lee and Lifeson in the spring, following their appearance at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame to induct Yes. They both said they're busy, but neither let on about working together again.
"Oh, I'm a busy man," Lee said. "I'm a busy man. I got a lot of irons in the fire, so to speak. I got a couple of projects that are somewhat related to music but don't involve playing."
Lifeson said he'd been working through writer's block on a number of potential songs.
"I'm playing a lot, I'm writing a lot, so I'll see where that goes. You know, some days I think, 'I'd love to do a solo record' and the next day it's like, 'Ugh, solo record. No thanks.' The stuff I've written I love it and then I hate it and then I love it and then I hate it. So the thing is, I'm just working and doing it and I have a feeling that I'll put something together this year."
Lee and Lifeson have released one solo album a piece; Victor by Lifeson in 1996, and My Favorite Headache from Lee in 2000.
Lee and Lifeson are lifelong friends. They started Rush while they were in high school and still live near one another in Ontario, Canada. Maybe they're bound to work together again.
