Watch Joe Bonamassa Shred on Keith Richards' Old Guitar

Modern blues guitar great Joe Bonamassa dropped by a vintage guitar store in Nashville to take one of Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards' old Fender Telecasters for a spin.

Keef probably never burned the fretboard of that guitar quite the way Bonamassa did in his brief demo, but Richard's probably worked out a few hit songs on it.

Bonamassa, a virtuoso guitarist and guitar collector, gives some details about Richards' iconic instrument. First, he explains the guitar is a hybrid of two Fender guitars: a '52 Telecaster body with a '56 Esquire neck bolted onto it.

"When you get into collecting, some people will sit there for about three hours and argue over the originality of a screw," he explains. "You know what the Rolling Stones do? They just stick a neck onto a body and go, 'I like that. Let's play it.'"

After playing a little bit more, Bonamassa remarks, "This is a good sounding guitar. This is a really good sounding guitar. I can see why he liked it."

Bonamassa goes on to point out scratches on the guitar's fretboard caused by years of Richards' strumming over the upper frets, marking up the wood and wearing down the finish.
