Interview: The Cranberries Talk "Something Else", Their Appearance on 'The Bachelorette,' Their 25th Anniversary and More!

The Cranberries dropped by Q104.3 New York's "Out of the Box" with Jonathan Clarke to talk about their new release, Something Else, an LP of re-imagined Cranberries hits alongside new material.

"It was our 25th anniversary, so we thought it'd be nice to do something special for the fans," Dolores O'Riordan tells the show. "So we thought that we'd take a lot of the songs out of our setlist and take our hits and re-record them with a [string] quartet. So that's what we did."

O'Riordan and Noel Hogan also cleared up the band's appearance in the season finale of "The Bachelorette" a couple years ago.

"I don't follow the show, but the viewership was 8 million or something like that, so it was good exposure," she says. "And they asked us to do 'Linger.' So I thought it might be good to try, you know, because a lot of young people watch that show."

She adds that the "Bachelorette" performance included a string quartet with the band. The success of that appearance helped convince the band to do what ended up on Something Else.

O'Riordan and Hogan also reminisce on some of their first big tours and on their first trip to New York City, and the hard lesson they learned when they first tried to check out of their hotel rooms with the contents of the mini bar in their luggage.
