Fred Phelps, founder of the Westboro Baptist Church, died last night at the age of 84.

Many will remember the infamous Phelps, a disbarred former lawyer, and his group for protesting the funerals of US military war casualties claiming their deaths were retribution from God for America’s tolerance of homosexuality and other "sins."

Instead of celebrating the end of his life, we choose to remember how some counter-protested the Westboro efforts in creative, humanist and often endearing ways such as Lisa Lampanelli donating $50,000 to a gay charity in the church’s name or the Foo Fighters performing a song just for them while they were protesting the band's show in his hometown.

Check out the Foo Fighters' performance below (Warning: explicit language and adult subject matter!) and enjoy the irony that today is also the International Day of Happiness.
