Woody Allen’s vision of the Bernie Madoff scandal.

OMG! Cate Blanchett should start clearing her mantle right now for an Oscar. She is astounding as the delusional widow of a Bernie Madoff-like cheat (Alec Baldwin) who moves in with her San Francisco sister (Sally Hawkins) to try to start a new life as a sudden member of the 99%.

While the story is far from funny, there are many laughs . Andrew Dice Clay , as the sister’s ex-hubby, is the most grounded person on a screen filled with flawed characters. While all the actors are impressive, including Louis C.K., Peter Sarsgaard and Bobby Cannavale, it’s Blanchett’s movie all the way. Now THIS is acting.

I won’t do a spoiler but there’s a hint of misogyny in the climax. Still, this is one of Woody Allen’s recent bests.
