Officials at Mount Sinai Hospital say a man admitted yesterday probably does not have the Ebola virus.
“Odds are this is not Ebola,” said Jeremy Boal, the Chief Medical Officer at Mount Sinai. “It’s much more likely that it’s a much more common condition.”
The man arrived at the hospital yesterday morning complaining of a high fever and gastrointestinal symptoms. He also traveled to West Africa last month.
“The patient was promptly isolated and placed in a strict isolation facility at Mount Sinai, such that we could protect the patient and also any staff and other patients in the facility and all visitors,” said Mount Sinai President David Reich.
Officials said while the man likely doesn’t have the virus, the results of those tests won’t be back for 24 to 48 hours.
