The New York Times won’t endorse Governor Andrew Cuomo in his bid for re-election.
The editorial board will sit out the September 9th Democratic primary, saying Cuomo has failed to clean up Albany.
It said there’s still no comprehensive campaign finance reform and the governor blocked progress of the commission he established to investigate corruption.
“Having walked away from his most important goals, he should not be surprised if many Democrats walk away from him on Sept. 9.,” the editorial board said.
Cuomo is being challenged in the Democratic primary by Zephyr Teachout, who the Times said is “an advocate of precisely the kind of transparency and political reform that Albany needs.”
But they declined to endorse her because she doesn’t have the experience to govern New York.
