The Reverend Al Sharpton wants federal prosecutors to take over the investigation into the death of Eric Garner.

He says the weekend arrest of 22 year old Ramsey Orta creates a conflict of interest within the Staten Island District Attorney’s office.  Orta is the person who shot the video showing a police officer putting Garner in an apparent chokehold.

“It supports our call for the federal government to take this case, because now the Staten Island District Attorney may be in a conflict where he is prosecuting someone who may be a witness in the case,” Sharpton said.

Orta was busted on gun charges Saturday night and he complained that it was payback for filming the Garner incident.

Sources told the New York Post that the arresting officers had no idea Orta was involved in that situation, until he told them.

Orta was arrested when police allegedly saw him stick a .25 caliber semiautomatic pistol into a girl’s waistband outside the Hotel Richmond.  He has a criminal rap sheet that includes 25 arrests.
