A boat captain has been killed after an explosion on Long Island yesterday afternoon.  The 33-foot vessel went up in flames after 2 p.m. while it was refueling at the Manhasset Bay Marina at Matinecock Avenue.

The boat’s captain was killed, while another person was injured.

A dock worker was burned when they tried to push to boat away from the shore.  Two other boats were also damaged by the fire.

Newsday reports the person killed was Bob Hogan, a retired NYPD captain.  He’s also a former mayor of Plandome Manor.

The cause of the explosion isn’t known.
